How is A Song Born?
How is a song born?
Like a baby.
At the beginning it hurts
Afterward it comes out
And everyone is happy,
And suddenly --
Wow -- it's great!
He walks on his own.
How is a song born?
Like a baby.
At the beginning it hurts
And then it comes out.

Questions for discussion:
- Why do you think the poet chose to write a song about
writing songs?
- Does the poets experience describe your own
feelings when you try to create something?
- Considering the poet is a man, do you feel he has
less of a right to call upon the experience of delivering
a child to communicate his point.
- The mood of the song is playful. By emphasizing the
good feelings at the end of the creative process, the
poet encourages creativity. What tricks do you use to get
your creative juices flowing?
